ELAStudents in 5th grade will work with the final year of the California Wonders curriculum. The 6 units we work with cover the following "Big Ideas":
In writing, we begin by reviewing the elements of a great sentences. We will focus on crafting sentences that are detailed and in depth, and utilize graphic organizers to combine these sentences into thorough and complete paragraphs. By the end of the 1st semester, we will be writing pieces that have multiple paragraphs. and from there we will write and write and write! Writing can be one of hardest concepts for students to learn, so we will start with the basics and work our way up. |

HistoryIn Social Studies, we will be exploring our nation--from the Early Native Americans through the late 1700s. Along with learning about the birth of our nation, we will discuss how the government of the United States works.
We will spend time learning the fundamentals of geography (the 7 continents, various countries and states, and the different landforms of our world). We will discuss the 50 states and their capitals, and students will be challenged to memorize the capitals of the US. |
